Power Lunch

This afternoon I had lunch with Vince King, the Hurst Building Official and liaison to the Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Ron Haynes the Director of Public Works for the city. Wow. I can’t put into words how amazing this lunch was. Amid the wonderful food we discussed past and future city development projects and I related how my history in the Restaurant industry was impacted by city building issues. Ha! It was really fun and open and I am so very impressed by the knowledge and experience of these two men. I know that I will learn a great deal from them, and I really look forward to working with them in the future. I try not to gush too much but I was really taken by how candid and informative they were. No topic or issue seemed of limits and they were quick to educate me on their unique perspective.

Case in point: when the discussion about the widening of a major road focused on utilities, Ron pointed out that some utilities have to governed by gravity and couldn’t just be placed anywhere – like sewer lines. I never thought about all the planning and interdependentcies that are required in a project like this and I really felt like I was learning all sorts of new perspectives on the situation.

I have to just reign in my enthusiasm and not bombard them with questions…I’m kinda like a small child who can’t stop asking questions!

In addition to meeting these two great guys, I took away from the meeting a copy of the Hurst Zoning Ordinances and the City Of Hurst City Council Rules and Procedures Manual which looks very impressive and makes me think of my future…and dream
